Congratulations to Leashed Dogs in Lakewood Parks!

Congratulations! The proposed ordinance has passed allowing leashed dog walking in 2 Lakewood parks. This is a 12 month pilot program which will begin sometime this spring. Responsible dog owners will be allowed to try out leashed dog walking in Lakewood Park (on Lake Ave. at Belle) and in Kauffman park.

More Info.

Park Thawed - and Cleaned

When the park thaws out, there is usually some impromptu clean up that needs done. What gets buried in the snow makes its way to the surface. Typically, this only happens once in the spring, but recently we had a mid-winter thaw and a few people got together to clean it up. The park looks great thanks to the hard work of these all stars.

Amenities

The Dog Park features a spacious 2/3rd acre fenced lot bordering the Metroparks. It has a gravel surface and five majestic trees that provide shade in the summer. There are two double gated entrances, located on either end of the park, for dog safety. A water fountain is provided with a human-sized spout and a fountain, with a stainless steel bucket liner, at the right height for pups (though water is turned off during the winter season, from mid-October until May). There are 5 Dog Waste Bag stations positioned around the park and there are two pooper scooper rake/pans located near each double gated entrance. There is ample seating with 19 benches located through out the park. There is also a large information kiosk placed west of the entrance gate near the street, please check it when you visit for updates and information regarding the dog park and local events. There are now also 4 Hand Sanitizers to be found around the park.

Small Dog Area

As of April 9th, 2006, we have a small dogs play area for dogs 20 pounds and under. A fence and gate separate it from the rest of the dog park. The Small Dogs Only Play Area has it's own water bowl, toy basket, benches and shade tree. Now your small dog has a place of it's own where he/she won't feel so overwhelmed.
